ATLANTA, Ga. -- Glenn Hubbard’s two-run double ignited Atlanta’s eight-run fifth inning and the host Braves beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 10-3, giving rookie right-hander Tom Glavine his first major-league victory.
Glavine, 1-1, and Pittsburgh starter Bob Walk, 5-2, were locked in a scoreless duel when Ozzie Virgil led off the Braves’ fifth with a walk and went to second on a single by Jeff Blauser. Hubbard then singled to center, scoring both runners.
Before the inning was over, the Braves sent 12 batters to the plate against three pitchers and got seven of their 14 hits.
